There's an old quote that I like to live by, I'm not sure who to attribute it to.

But I think it goes...

"Be childish when you can, and be mature when you have to be".

To me, the word "childish" has a negative connotation when applying it to adults. So, I prefer the word "childlike". It rings truer and gentler to me...more positive, gentler.

So, "Be childlike when you can, and be mature when you have to be".

To me, being childlike means to see the world through the eyes of a child...when you can. When the situation would benefit from seeing the world like this.

Otherwise, be mature when maturity is required, and only when it is required.

Also, I think you can view serious situations in a childlike manner in order to gain clarity on how to solve difficult problems. This view enables simplicity, gets rid of unwanted "noise" that is not germane to a solution.

I've figured out in my later years that this is the best way, for me anyway, to view the world.

I'm not really sure if I have found the right words to express this concept here, but I hope that I have.

This is my thought for the day.

Have a beautiful day.

The teacher made the whole class stay after school and do that for 30 minutes, as punishment for disrupting the class with armpit farts.

Everyone went home in pain because our armpits turned raw and red, and some of the kids even burst into tears.

Teachers were fucking savages back then.

I had to look that one up, and it looks like "nipple twisting" became prevalent in the 90s.

I was busy being "mature" in the 90s.

Just made a quick run to Wegmans to try it out. I tried it on a 275 pound bearded dude in his 30s.

I'm on my way to the ER now.

I remember the youthful indiscretions of Eye of Newt Gingrich...

Snort!

Wasnt he in his 40's?..GOP has different interpretations for their stages of development.

I am an unusual person in my current world. I am a college dropout, who started “living” my life around 22 years old. I moved to a ski town for a year and stayed 12. Went back to school as a thirty-something, loved it the second time around and became a high school math and science teacher. Besides teaching the subject matter, I tried to impress on the kids to not fall into the trap of living to work, versus working to live. My wife says I did retirement on the front end. To this day I live each day to the fullest I can. I love live music and have been fortunate to see at least one live show a week, last week I saw four shows in 8 days. You’re only as old as you want to be. I’m pushing 60, but still think I’m in my 20-30s. The body doesn’t always cooperate, but I’m working on that as well. Anyway, life is for experiencing as much as you can. Also for sharing your love and positivity to as many as you can.

Rant over, but childlike is fun, adulting, not so much. 😀

"You have to grow old, you don't have to grow up"

There two kinds of immature, the petty spiteful self-absorbed kind, and a good kind - childlike and willing to live in the moment. Try new things, find enjoyment where you are.

I really don't know why anyone wants to turn into a grumpy old fuddy-duddy. But it happens all the time, so it's either genetic or cultural. Similar to the way that shortly after having kids of one's own seems to make everyone completely forget that THEY did those same things at that age and they turn into their own parents.
