As of late April 2026, Alcatraz Island is experiencing temporary closures for dock repairs, with reports indicating a sudden closure around April 20, 2026, and further intermittent closures planned. While it is generally open year-round, you must check for updates and book tickets through Alcatraz City Cruises—the official operator—due to potential closures and high demand. 

So I guess the answer is: "ordinarily" but very RECENT closure for repairs happened just 10 days ago.
