Not quite sure why. We lost our other kitty Zeke a little over 2 weeks ago. She seems ok,but I wonder if the sudden sniffing is related.
Anyone have a similar experience?
She's named Hillary Kitten because she showed up as a dumped cat 2 weeks before the 2016 election.

(82,138 posts)I had two little 6 lb Maltese dogs.
One of them died suddenly.
About a week or so later the other little dog is sniffing around the perimeter of the inside of the house. At the doors, etc. Very noticeable difference in her behavior.
I think it was obvious she was looking for her missing companion.

Did Hillary attend Zeke's wake and funeral ? Maybe Hillary is not fully aware of the other cat's passing. And trying to ascertain whether she should enter the grieving process. Maybe she should visit Zeke's headstone, bring a few flowers, and meow a few kind words in remembrance.
That might help.

(16,976 posts)I figure most mammals have at least a primitive comprehension of death. I have also left directions that if I have living pets at the time of my demise, I want them to see/smell my remains. I'd rather they know I'm dead over: I Never Came Back.

(14,576 posts)If other cats come back from the vet or if another cat is missing. My other cats went around looking for Kitty Jack after he went to the vet, never to return.
My barn cat Winnie hung around for a week after her bonded partner Vicky had to be put to sleep, then disappeared.
The funniest thing has been related by my friend, who raises Egyptian Maus. She says whenever one of her girls comes back from visiting a male to be bred, the other girls (there are 3) will all sniff her as if to ask, "Where have you been? Who with? Oooh! Tell us all about him!"
