(565 posts)Back in 2012... We are their stewards and take the responsibility seriously.
We are the alpha and make decisions for their sake- not ours. It's the honorable loving thing to do.
My angel still sits on the upper shelf overlooking all the goings on and I feel him with me still when i look up
there at his beautiful wooden box on the alter. He was in my arms as he crossed over.
I simply could not part from him and had him cremated/saved. Dam it was hard.
I was the only person he listened to. He went with me everywhere in the car after that.

(4,902 posts)My hope for you is that this will give you the time you need with him/her.
No one can tell you how to cope. I would say to take special care of yourself during this hard time.
Your dog would want that for you.

My dad took my childhood dog, Jackie, to be put to sleep when I was in the 10th grade. He told my mom he cried when Jackie was put down. I never saw my dad cry myself. I never knew until then how much he loved that dog.

He got suddenly depressed and glassy-eyed. then his back legs gave out and he collapsed. I put him on the bed under the ceiling fan and laid there with him while waiting to leave for the vet appointment. He looked pretty bad, I didn't think we'd be bringing him home.
He perked up a bit by the time we got to the vet. The doc gave him a good physical. It's orthopedic rather than neurologic. She doesn't think that his bladder mass has metastasized out of the bladder. His reflexes were good.
He's been on Carprofin since diagnosed with the bladder mass, and today she also put him on Methocarbamol and Gabapentin. She thinks maybe the sudden depression was due to the heat, and the collapse may have been an acute issue like a pinched nerve that resolved.
I appreciate all you people here. Thank you.
