(23,771 posts)He lived in a small town, and could walk to the theater, get in for a nickel. I don't think he had a favorite movie. After the movie, he and his friends would go look at the cars on display in the dealers' lots. My husband knew every car, from certain years, by remembering the details he noticed when he was a kid

(1,471 posts)In the late 50s and early 60s, my dad was stationed at NAS Memphis and we got the TV stations from Memphis. On Saturday mornings, after watching cartoons we'd watch old Tarzan movies and Jungle Jim, both staring Johnny Weissmuller.

early 60s he worked in a drive in, so there were a lot of nights Mom, me & my siblings were there to watch movies. He got promoted to mall movie theaters in the 70s.
This video clip was the music for General Cinema corporation; I still tap out the opening notes if I am waiting for something in public.
Did you have a particular type of Saturday afternoon movie you liked?

(1,371 posts)My dad was a Marine and at that time we lived on the Cherry Point Marine Base in NC. There was a theater on base and on Saturday afternoons my two older siblings and I would go to matinee. I can still remember putting the dime in the entry turnstile and going through. Cant say I had a favorite movie or genre. We watched whatever was playing. Im sure our mom was happy to have us out of her hair for a couple of hours. I remember one horror film so scary I was stuffing my mittens in my mouth to stop from screaming. Something like the Beast with Five Fingers. Not sure if thats correct. Probably really lame if I saw it again now!
