A non-voting, "my-life's-fine" acquaintance who avoids knowing anything about the world beyond his job and home (perhaps his mental state can't handle anything else) just showed me photos from his recent cruise to Alaska. He and his SO were enthusiastic about all of the beautiful waterfalls they saw along the coast there, along with "only one" sighting of a glacier, which was "so blue" and which they could see only from a distance because it was so small.

Every photo demonstrated glacial melt and retreat. I didn't point out that climate change was responsible for there being so many waterfalls and shrinking glaciers. I used to try with these people but nothing I could say got through. Thanks to them, though, I now understand why humans are wrecking the planet--too many others just tune out.
