Has anyone heard of the photographer Horydczak?
I bought 2 photos/pictures years ago, came across them over the weekend. I see that a collection of his work was contributed to the LOC after his death, and they have an online link to see it. Both of the pictures are views of D.C. (Jefferson Memorial, cherry blossoms in bloom) One has an embossed name with a copyright symbol. I wonder if it is original or a copy, and if his photographs are owned privately. I posted it on Imgur, link below. Thanks!

(18,968 posts)C for copyright and the photographer's name. He was a commercial photographer. I don't know if the embossed name means that it is closer to being an original. Or if it is just a classy copy.

(46,940 posts)I have seen photos with embossing, like the raised lettering of a notary, and I took those to be prints by the original photo studio. A photographer might issue a batch of a photo he took for an event, and distribute them to participants, for example. I believe this was a common practice from about 1900 to the 1950s. Don't know if it faded out, or when.
If you can get a good closeup of the embossing, you might query a couple prominent auction houses to see if there's any interest. They must get questions like that every month.

(18,968 posts)Horydczak was active from about 1928 to the late 50's. I got a shot of the embossing. I might follow up with either the LOC or an auction house.
I am sorting things and trying to track down the mysteries. Snow day entertainment
