1. I like your work.

I'm a quilter, piecer mostly, but I follow patterns others publish. I try to make them my own some way, changed block or colorway. Copying the masters seems like a good way to learn.

I mean you're good enough to create your own paintings. Or is the plan to become a forger? It's a nice profitable niche if you can delay the unveiling for several decades.

A lot can be learned copying other artists. You did a really good job with the colors and values in this one - water color is so tricky and you can't fix anything like you can with oils (which is why I tend to avoid water color).

But now I can se the value in it. And you're right about fixing things. You really need to plan ahead.

15. My art instructor swears by it. Figuring out how the original artists

did what they did is really useful. I did a fake Caravaggio once, starting from the verdacchio underpainting they used at the time; took me almost a year. It didn't come close to the original but it was an interesting exercise.
