Small. 4x6. and very fast. I did this in about an hour. I purposely didnt want to get too detailed.

(39,726 posts)I wanted to try something different and focus on the shapes and the mood. A bit more abstract, if you will! Im glad you like it!

(128,950 posts)The way the brake lights are painted as blurs is perfect.

(39,726 posts)That was an accident! I was touching up a few highlights on the image with my Apple Pencil and being clumsy, I smeared the red taillights. But then I decided I liked the way it looked, so I left it that way. Glad you noticed!

(19,666 posts)of room for our imaginations to enjoy and develop stories and fill in the blanks. Love the car with just a hint of blue and the red brake lights. I think this painting is marvelous. Truly marvelous.

(26,649 posts)Sometimes the best paintings are the ones done quickly and loosely!
Diamond_Dog
(39,726 posts)I wanted to try a looser, more abstract effort. Some images lend themselves to that kind of style better than others, dont you agree.

(26,649 posts)I think just about every subject benefits by the approach you take. I think that's what being an artist is all about. Sometimes I look at a reference photo for a couple days before I start painting. I need to figure out how I'm going to approach it. What medium I'm going to use. How big it's going to be. Etc. Etc.

(39,726 posts)Im very slow usually, and do a lot of picturing it this way and that way before I even start a sketch. And once Im into a project, I think about it all the time! I tried to get away from all that overthinking with the piece I posted here.

(6,819 posts)Sets a nostalgic rainy-day mood. The smeared red of the brake lights indicates we're looking through a wet windshield. The vehicles look to be late 1970s.
I didn't know or had forgotten that you painted. Looking forward to seeing more of your work!

(39,726 posts)I have posted here from time to time. Generally Im not very prolific but Id like to remedy that.
I did this from a photograph I took in NYC probably in the early 80s, so youre right about the car which I think is a Ford.

and maybe rainy? Very mysterious, imho.

(39,726 posts)Youre right about Gotham, its from a photo I took a few decades ago in NYC. I like structures, buildings, cityscapes, etc.

(88,968 posts)Amazing how much detail can be communicated with quick brushstrokes. I love the reflection in the cars rear window! Really nice!

(39,726 posts)Id like to try more of this abstract-yet-somewhat-realistic style. Cityscapes are perfect subjects.
