(23,418 posts)or went to school for art you would always be better than me because of your talent.
Except for this book I read, "Drawing on the right side of the brain" I read that and did all the assignments and I actually got fairly good at drawing - I mean I went from stick figures to being able to draw a gorilla that actually looked like a gorilla.

(1,776 posts)Perspective is troubling; the bird is precariously perched on a plant that would not sustain its weight, and its feet and talons are considerably askew.
The palette is exceedingly monotonous, indeed beige, and begs for some contrasting hue to offer some potential interest to the eye.
Alas, the subject matter is all too well-worn and disinteresting. Short of some genius to elevate this work, if sold as sidewalk art it may bring $15 if properly framed.

(4,187 posts)I'm trying to learn to draw so I can be a better painter...so far I've only had beginner's luck with acrylics on canvas or paper. But I enjoy trying. But this... watercolor is so difficult to master...this is lovely and I love the curious expression on the bird's face! Now that I've tried watercolor myself, it seems completely impossible to control the paint well enough to make a recognizable object. I have better outcomes when I accidentally thin down the acrylic too much so it makes it look like a watercolor. But you did a great job with this! I respect your skill and talent so much! Thank you for sharing!

(13,737 posts)I have days where my water consistency is right on.
You cant have it to wet or to dry. Its tricky and there are all sorts of crazy things I do.
If I get it to wet I gray a q-tip and go right to the area.
Then start again after I let it dry a little so it dont bleed.
Patience is the key. Just go slow.
I watch lots of tutorials for begininners. You also have to have good paper (thats a big learning curve).
Buy the Arches as its so much easier to control the amount of water to paint ratio.
The paint flows most times by itself.
Give it a try.
Cheap paper just never works well with watercolor.
Arches Cold pressed

Grandma Moses didn't start painting until she turned 78, so you have a head start!

(344 posts)From my limited experience with water colors, I learned that not overapplying paint is harder than anything. To me, leaving spaces with just a wash of color or no color is the challenge and artistry of watercolors. In other words, I love your light touch and think the painting is splendid and beautiful.
