Music Appreciation
Related: About this forumThis is off topic for DU MA, but this is the forum that knows me, so I'm asking for a pass. I will post music
On Tuesday, the last person who was kin to me the day I was born, passed away.
My Uncle Bruce was my hero when I was a child.
He was a mentor to me as a young man, and a shining role model for me as an older man.
My aspiration was to be as loving and supportive a brother, husband, uncle and father as he was.
He was the youngest of 4 on my mom's side, just barely 13 years older than me.
I have referred to him here as "My Cool Uncle" or my "Coal Miner uncle" while talking about outlaw country, southern rock or early metal - The reason being I stole records from him when I was 13 or 14
Instead of scaring me, or narcing me out to his sister - He gave me a gift certificate to the Goody's Record store.
The records I stole were, Yes, "Fragile"

And Led Zeppelin II

(3,205 posts)He sounds like quite a guy. While he's no longer present here and now, I can tell that the gifts of love, example, and inspiration he gave you are ones that live in who you have become.

(52,287 posts)any age. Remembering him this way is a beautiful tribute.
I lost my mom's baby sister, the youngest of 7 siblings and the last of that generation of the family, last month. It's wrenching that they're no longer here. But I believe our loved ones are partying on the other side - with some incredible music to enjoy there, too - and we will see them again.

(6,929 posts)An amazing tribute to the role music played (and likely continues to play) in the relationships of our lives. A sonic calendar of important times, family events, and experiences. IMHO, there is no better place to post a tribute like this.
Thank you for sharing some of the music you two shared. Sorry for your loss and keep spinning em.

(3,550 posts)I had both of those albums when they came out. I used to listen to Roundabout over and over. Your uncle and I probably would have been buddies had we known each other.

(84,268 posts)Its a moment when you need the comfort and understanding and its always available here!
Always! Doesnt matter what time it is or how long or intense the need is. And as our beloved Skittles has said: someones always here. I dont know why that observation had a ch an impact on me, but it sure did. Its always had an impact, always reassured, and always made me think.
