Musicians
Related: About this forumI have been playing a lot more guitar since the election
I used to play an hour or so a day. Now I'm playing about three hours a day, lol.
I just can't watch the news and I need my music to keep me sane.

(1,737 posts)but my husband got me a cajon drum for my birthday and a looper for Christmas so I'm like a one woman band at the moment.
It would be fun to jam with people again. Sometimes I play along with the recordings to get the band type feel.

(10,850 posts)Its a good thing. We may soon be on a street corner with an open guitar case to get charge for vender machine food. But we may get a rested if we play any woke music. YMCA and God bless the USA or the brown shirts will arrest us.
Free Bird and Sweet Hime Alabama mat be allowed.
I refuse to play Nugent or Kid Rock trash.
Can ya do any Ye?
I don't play any Ye. I do play a lot of R&B and soul.

(10,850 posts)On strings while we can. Always been a concern of mine if the shit and fans go full nuke.
Lots of survival stuff in the woods, but I cant figure out string alternatives.

(72,124 posts)Since I retired I play both piano & guitar in 15 minute bites but each about 3 times a day.
I didn't watch cable news before the election, so that couldn't change.
3 hours a day is quite serious.
Working on any specific things.
On guitar, I have been working on arpeggios & resolving them with scales & modes. Almost all acoustic, 6 & 12. Haven't played electric more than a few times in a year.
On piano, I'm just improvising in minor I, IV, V, and diatonic Ii, V, I (with a VI, IV turnaround).
I just pick a different key everyday.
The 6 string I use most needs new strings, but I keep putting it off. Not sure why. It's not like it takes a lot of time.

(1,737 posts)I also find it therapeutical. I have all the songs I know in a playlist and I spend at least an hour and a half just playing along with the recordings. I also have been learning new songs I have always wanted to play but never got around to learning. This week I learned and worked on both Croce and Maury Muehleisen's parts in Operator. That was a lot of fun. You should get yourself the new strings. You'll be glad you did. I restring the two I play the most every 2 1/2 to three months. I haven't played my 12 string acoustic or my electric guitars very much. My go to guitars are my Martin and my GS mini that I keep in a stand right by the couch.

(72,124 posts)I use that the most on 6. I have another older Martin that is bright tuned. (A bit of a twist. I have that 4th & 5th strings an octave up.) My Takamine is tuned to either C6 or DADGAD
My three 12 strings are tuned down to D standard (Carvin), D major, (Guild) and D minor (a 70s Harmony).
But mostly, I play the mid 90s Martin & the Carvin.
BTW: went to an open mic thing at a brew pub in our town. Just git back 15 minutes ago.
Host band did about 4 times, then a solo did 5, then I played 2, then another guy dud 5.
I left after that. I had one beer which is as much as I drink, so ti.me to go home.
I did Everybody Wants To Rule The World & Don't Dream It's Over. Those are tunes I actually worked out arrangements for, including some guitar interludes.

(1,737 posts)It's more of a hobby for me although my husband keeps teasing me that he's going to book me at the pub at the golf course up the road, lol.
I have an old Ovation I keep in drop down double D for some Beatles and Doobie Brothers songs but every thing else in in standard tuning and I'll adjust tuning for songs as needed.

(72,124 posts)I played a couple thousand gigs in my time, but it was never my profession.
Lucrative, but still a hobby.
I was a multikeyboardist in the band's about 90% of the time, but still played guitar on some songs. Sometimes, both of the same song.
My last band lasted 20 years. Nearly 1,600 gigs together!
We all sang, so I'd sing lead on 40% the guitar player did the same and the drummer & bass player shared the other 20%. But, there were harmonies on every song, so we were all singing nearly every song.
As a side project, the drummer, guitarist & I did a 3 piece thing with me on bass.
Here on some examples. The first is just some tunes I recorded alone. I play & sing all the parts. The second is the 3 piece at a Battle Of The Bands we won.
