Related: About this forumI play conga and bongo drums and ordered some soft mallets to use because of my injured hand. What do you think?

These are too long probably but I can choke up on them like a baseball bat...I think they will work...Cheers

(4,376 posts)Of course, you wont be able to slap with them but I do like the sound of mallets on congas.

(4,197 posts)I also have a cajon and a couple of frame drums that I will try...too much fun as I'm not a pro drummer and never took lessons but in my old age I love percussion sounds. I put streaming jazz radio (KCSM a fav) on my house smart speakers and play away...linky for KCSM below

(4,197 posts)These are pretty firm and the felt is nice. Just have to temper my whacking...I think they will be good on my cajon too but haven't tried it yet...

The bounce of the stick in your fingers will reduce the overall impact.
Drummers do that when they want to be sure that cymbal flourishes aren't to loud.

(4,197 posts)brushes in lieu of the mallets and they seem to be what I wanted. They are adjustable and work on my congas, bongo and cajon. So when I'm not using my fingertips or palm I can use the brushes...Of course they sound a little different from my hands but they sound good to me...As my left hand fingers are still cracked (from a fall in Jan), that hand is not as effective on the drums. I can use it without pain but it's not the same...so, brushes it will be...Cheers

(73,332 posts)Have fun.
I play piano & guitar every day, even though I quit performing 18 years ago.
There's always something new to learn.

(4,197 posts)I read a little music and can pick out some tunes....I was a vocal music student in college and after and participated in both college and community theatre productions...those were fun times...

(73,332 posts)I was a performing musician/singer for over 30 years. Played over 2,000 gigs over that time.
20 years of that (1,600 or so gigs) was with the same band; same 4 guys, counting me.
In fact, it was the same sound & lighting guys, too.
It was a very lucrative hobby. That's why I have a piano, multikeyboard rig, 14 guitars, a bass, a mandolin, a violin, an electronic drum kit & a recording console. Since I never spent any household money, my wife never objected.
I had to quit when it was too hard to manage that schedule with my work travel schedule. I was gone an awful lot & decided when I'm home, I should be home.

(4,197 posts)I worked in the graphic arts industry scanning and manipulating images for their colors and content using apps like Adobe Photoshop, it was fun and I got to go to our customer's locations and do some training courses. I've never been paid for doing music but I do have about the same number of guitars as you alone with 3 basses and 4 banjos and a few other odd instruments and 3 or 4 smallish amps. Never been married so no problems with my budget for music. I'm a night owl so posting late is my norm. Cheers...
