(1,459 posts)It took me about 35 years, but I finally marked it off my bucket list, along with seeing Lake Michigan and the Pacific Ocean.

Wonder Why
(4,589 posts)reasonable price than any comparable way to travel. We've driven out west and lived there but when I drove, I missed a lot of the scenery as compared to sitting in the Lounge car and the diner watching the west go by.
We've also done the Starlight and that is great. Haven't done the Empire Builder but we have also done the Southwest Chief and Sunset Limited and while the former is a step below the Zephyr and the Sunset is two steps down, they both are rides not to be missed.
People talk about the train but either have never taken any long distance trips or have only taken the ones in the east and their is no comparison to their western counterparts. Even just taking the Zephyr from Denver to Grand Junction and never leaving Colorado, you see so much for so little and it is a daytime experience you can do inexpensively in coach without needing a sleeper yet still get to sit on the couches and chairs in the Lounge Car at no extra cost.

It's so much better being able to watch the scenery from a train coach, sleeper or lounge instead of having to watch a painted yellow line in the middle of the road...
Thanks for sharing - and for checking out my post!
