So glad you posted the link, I'm a CA voter but have not bumped into this one. I have to say the results so far are better than I expected, at least for the percentage of ballots returned by each group.

And drop them off. Don’t trust Dejoy USPS with this important ballot.

I mailed mine on 8/20 and 8/24 I got a text from my county election dept. that "your signature on the vote-by-mail return envelop was either missing or does not match what is on file". They say they'll send instructions to correct within 7 days and so far I haven't seen anything. I'm 99% sure I did sign the envelope and maybe my signature was off for some reason.

Have never had this issue before and don't know what the returned ballot rate is in previous elections, but 16% seems pretty high.

Anyone have details of what's going on with returned ballots?

Thanks

Just before the 2020 election the Santa Clara county registrar gave an interview to a local paper and went over the process for mail-in ballots. In brief, if the scanner has a problem with your signature, it gets sent to a human who compares it with your recent signatures on file - not just on your original registration but on copies of your signature from recent elections and from the DMV. If it still doesn't seem to match, the envelope is examined by someone who's been through the FBI's training on signature matching. And if it still is questioned, the registrar's office contacts the voter, who has some number of days to get to their office and correct the problem. "Within 7 days" gives them until the 31 to reach you, or to Sept. 2 if you're just counting business days. And remember that some California counties have more people than some states - mine has ~1 million registered voters and it's not even the largest!

Even though the website shows a ballot as "counted", the envelopes aren't opened until election day.

Thanks Retrograde. I'm in Contra Costa.
My handwriting has gotten worse since I do almost everything electronically now. I notice it most when I write the rare check, but even my checks still go through.

I got the letter from the elections office yesterday and they said I hadn't signed my ballot. Thought I did, but the letter had me sign it and I mailed that back today. So, my 'No' vote should be counted.

Latest polls are looking good for 'no', but we know polls don't vote.
