Third batch of California stimulus checks due in October
SF Chronicle / 9-23-21
A third batch of Golden State stimulus checks will be disbursed to Californians in early October, according to the Franchise Tax Board.
State officials will send out a combination of mailed paper checks and direct deposits of one-time checks on Oct. 5 and will continue to send out payments every two to three weeks, Franchise Tax Board spokesperson Andrew LePage said in an email.
Two batches of direct deposit payments were issued in the last month: 600,000 on Aug. 27 and 2 million on Sept. 17.
The stimulus checks are part of the second round of payments targeted at helping people who made up to $75,000 in 2020 recover from the coronavirus pandemic. Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a $100 billion plan in July that included new one-time $600 cash payments for low- and middle-income people in an effort to help those hit hardest by the pandemic a group that he said includes two-thirds of Californians.
