California officials declared a statewide grid emergency to cope with surging demand for power amid a blistering heat wave, raising the prospect of rolling blackouts.

The California Independent System Operator issued a level-1 energy emergency alert around 3:10 p.m. local time Wednesday after tapping all of its available power supplies. The notice, which comes after officials asked homes and businesses to conserve, is a warning that the state is anticipating power shortages.

I went to bed last night at 12:30 and it was still 87° . More triple digits expected within the next few days too. ugghh

i noticed that most of the sf bay area was off last nite . im near yosemite nat park and we traditionaly got the brunt of the blackouts . we have been having numerous load spills over the summer . the last time we had flex alerts the rs had a problem with that. so, u want to be like texas? conserve u dern fools.

I'm all for clean energy, but it doesn't seem their grid can handle what they have now.
