Yet even this morning yet another NY Post article blew the crazy top on the "blame Gavin" game.
I'm wondering if anyone else recalls: mid 1980's a San Francisco News investigation broadcast segment revealed the number of arrivals at San Francisco Greyhound station that had been handed tickets to San Francisco after release from jails all over the Western U.S.. It shed light on where some of the homeless population was coming from even back when.
I'm not surprised one bit now the Post played the "trash California" game. It even mentioned "as originally reported by Fox News."
But there's strong suspicion that little significant detail hasn't stopped, and can account for some of the more derelict troubles. Doubly not surprised at the "send our worst problems there then trash them for it" game afoot.
We certainly could use blowing the lid off that counterpoint again.

2. I'm planning a visit

to San Francisco and I hope I come back alive because my brother-in-law (a Trump supporter) told me how dangerous it is there. The homeless are overrunning the downtown area and Union Square has shut down. He didn't convince me not to go.

4. My son and his gf just returned from a trip to SF

They had a wonderful time. I hope you do, too!

My sis warned me that SF is full of crazy homeless people, street drug sales, and other crime and she hoped they would be all right. Must be the talking points they use on Fox “news”.

6. I'm a native San Franciscan

There are areas you don’t go to. Take public transportation and avoid leaving your rental car in the fisherman’s wharf area. A lovely walk though fisherman’s wharf, pier 39 down the Embarcadero to the Ferry building which has some great food offerings. Then you can take the underground muni to Powell and walk two blocks to union square. Avoid the tenderloin area and parts of the Mission districts are sketchy. I live near a lovely area called West Portal where you can take the underground muni to and walk around.The same street car can take you to Stonestown shopping mall.

San Francisco has gone though up and down cycles. During the hippie era it was kind o sketchy and I remember as a kid south of market had all these alcoholics and drug addict before they cleaned it up. We have a weak mayor now that needs to be replaced. But SF will come back. The pandemic brought a lot of homeless unsavory people to SF who weren’t here before.

September is our best weather month btw.

8. I was down in that pier area a few years ago. It was very nice.

was staying in a hotel for a conference. Walking in one direction took me through the less nice area, I saw the street people. But being from Los Angeles, it wasn't shocking.

Unhoused in other states given tickets to Cali if they promise to go and not come back.

People released from jail and put on buses as well.

Unhoused from other states coming just on their own as well for many reasons, including the weather is better and they know there’s more chance of catching a break and being treated better than wherever they’re coming from.

5. If San Francisco is such a hellish place why does it cost so much to live there?

The fascists are always trying to convince people who actually live in shit-hole U.S.A. that they've got it good and should continue to vote for the Republican representatives who are shitting on them.

It doesn't help that our democracy was set up to give rural voters a disproportionate amount of political power.

These are just folks that want to do drugs and nothing at all, and they will go wherever they are most tolerated and indulged.
