Chico City Councilmember Tom Van Overbeek announces 2026 re-election bid

CHICO, Calif. - Chico City Councilmember Tom Van Overbeek announced his bid for re-election in District 6. Van Overbeek, who first won his seat in 2022, shared insights into his accomplishments.

"I've taken the lead on public safety areas, particularly police. The red light camera system was something I initiated," said Van Overbeek. "One of the big concerning things for me in Chico is the status of the Five Mile flood control system, so I was the person who took the initiative to ratchet that up our list of to-do's," he said.

Van Overbeek explained with Action News Now his motivation for seeking another term.

"I love the town, and the town descended into a bad place over decades, and I have a strong sense that we've turned that around and we're now coming back... and it's enormously satisfying," said Van Overbeek.
