Supervisor recall proponents's lead shortens in latest primary election results

he slight lead the proponents of the recall of the District 5 San Benito County Supervisor Ignacio Velazquez has been reduced to nine votes after the latest batch of ballot results were released on June 6.

Recall proponents led by an 1,094-1,085 vote margin out of 2,179 votes counted so far for that race, according to county elections. Supervisor Ignacio Velazquez took an early lead on Election Night, June 2, but subsequent returns saw the recall proponents erase the lead and steadily build a lead of their own that grew to as much as 28 votes early on June 3.

There have also 111 under votes, meaning voters who cast those ballots did not vote in that race.

Meanwhile, Auditor-Controller Joe Paul Gonzalez is behind by nearly 1,700 votes while the remaining county incumbents retain significant leads over the challengers.
