One-time rising star in the Colorado GOP suggests election meddling led to her loss

AURORA, Colo. — Outspoken former Aurora City Councilwoman Danielle Jurinsky claims, without offering evidence, that elections officials unethically juiced Democratic turnout in the municipal race she lost last year.

Jurinsky was a rising star in Republican politics in Colorado, responsible for bringing then-candidate Donald Trump to Aurora to claim the city was “conquered” by a migrant gang, before her upset loss in November 2025.

In a radio interview Tuesday on conservative talk station KNUS-AM, Jurinsky suggested one factor in her loss was election meddling by Arapahoe County Clerk Joan Lopez, a Democrat.

“I also heard that Joan Lopez was sending text messages to folks who hadn't returned their ballots,” Jurinsky said. “I didn't return my ballot until the very end up until Election Day. I didn't get a text message asking me if I was going to return my ballot. So maybe she was only sending out text messages to one political party."
