Greenwich Democrats endorse candidates for election but faced a contest when it came to school board

GREENWICH — The Greenwich Democratic Town Committee endorsed its candidates for the upcoming election Wednesday night and only had one race that was contested — the Board of Education.

The DTC nominating committee recommended a slate of candidates for local offices spanning from first selectman to Board of Estimate and Taxation to the school board, where it put its support behind two BOE newcomers, Bob Chaney and Veronica Chiavaroli.

However, Laura Kostin, a current school board member, said during the meeting that she is looking to run for her second term and would like the DTC to endorse three candidates instead of just two.

"I am not looking to keep anyone off of the ballot," she said. "Without question, I believe our party should do the most Democratic thing and I believe there is room on this slate for all of us because we are all good candidates and we all bring something special to the table."
