Health insurer Anthem to bring 1,800 new jobs to Georgia

According to the Associated Press, Georgia state and Atlanta city officials say the health insurance company Anthem Inc. will create an information technology hub in Atlanta.

Gov. Nathan Deal and Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed announced the expansion on Wednesday at the state Capitol. According to Anthem officials, the expansion will include about 1,800 jobs.

Anthem is the 18th software and technology company to announce a recent substantial investment in the Peach State. According to Gov. Deal, the state’s education system needs to keep up with demand for such companies coming in demanding high-skilled employees.

Mayor Reed told the AP that three companies have announced plans this year for Atlanta-based technology operations.
