GA-SD18: Candidates make final push ahead of District 18 special Senate election

MACON, Ga. — With Election Day just hours away, candidates in Georgia’s Senate District 18 race are making their final appeals to voters ahead of Tuesday’s special election.

The contest to replace Republican John F. Kennedy, who resigned in December to run for lieutenant governor, has drawn six challengers — five Republicans and one Democrat — vying to represent voters in parts of Bibb, Crawford, Houston, Monroe, Peach and Upson counties.

Democratic candidate LeMario Brown, the lone Democrat on the ballot, spent the weekend moving between campaign stops while volunteers canvassed neighborhoods across the district.

Brown received a boost in the final days of the campaign from U.S. Sen. Mark Kelly (D) of Arizona, a former astronaut, who stopped in Forsyth on Saturday to rally supporters for a canvass launch. He has framed his campaign around affordability, health care access and economic development, pitching himself as an advocate for working families, farmers and small business owners.
