GA-SD53: Special election called to fill Georgia Senate District 53 seat in northwest corner of state
Some voters in Floyd County, along with neighbors to the north, will have another special election on their March 10 ballot with the 14th Congressional District race.
Gov. Brian Kemp issued a call Tuesday to fill the Georgia Senate District 53 seat vacated by Colton Moore when he qualified to run for the U.S. House seat left empty after Marjorie Taylor Greene resigned Jan. 5.
Senate District 53 covers all of Chattooga, Walker, Dade and Catoosa counties and a northwestern piece of Floyd County including Armuchee.
Unlike the congressional race, candidates for the Georgia Senate must live in their district. The winner will serve Moores unexpired term through Dec. 31, with the general election for a full two-year term coming up later this year.
