The wife of disgraced Fox Lake Lt. Joseph Gliniewicz, who authorities say took his own life in a “carefully staged suicide” following years of criminal acts, has been indicted by a grand jury.

Melodie Gliniewicz was indicted Wednesday on multiple counts of disbursing charitable funds without authority and for personal benefit and money laundering

Never heard what happened with the son and military benefit fraud or the police chief who quit during an investigation last fall maybe those will be next ...

A Fox Lake resident on the news said enough for the small little town. Quite a story of corruption

But she should have known that they were living well beyond their means, but still had money. I do not see her getting away with this.

Although if I were living high on the hog on stolen money, I wouldn't have blown it on Starbucks and Dunkin Doughnuts.

She seem to have taken an active role in the crimes but that will have to be proven without a doubt

"Specifically, it appeared non-business-related monies had been withdrawn and money laundering had occurred involving the finances of the Fox Lake Police Explorer Post," the release said, adding that Melodie Gliniewicz "was also found to hold a fiduciary role as an adult advisor" of the program

One of the largest withdrawals from an Explorer account allegedly tapped for personal expenses, $7,000, was taken out in March 2014, according to court documents. One day later, the records show a $7,000 deposit was made to an account in Melodie Gliniewicz name

It is well established, both in law and in ethics, that if you deliberately keep yourself ignorant of wrongdoing, you are as culpable as if you had full knowledge.

If you want the legal argument, Rebecca Roiphe's "The Ethics of Willful Ignorance" is good. If you want the moral argument, see Thomas Aquinas' Summa Theologica I-II, Question 6, articles 3 and 8
