Emanuel rules out DNC chair run, flips off guy in bar

Mayor Rahm Emanuel on Friday morning described Washington, D.C., as "Disneyland on the Potomac" during a panel appearance in the nation's capital, then apologized because, "I don't want to insult Disneyland."

But though Emanuel said through his spokesman Adam Collins later Friday that he had spent enough time in D.C. and had no interest in becoming Democratic National Committee chair, the mayor's assurance in diagnosing a way forward for Democrats nationally showed why some commentators have suggested he might be a good fit for the role.

Speaking at the Brookings Institution, Emanuel suggested that Hillary Clinton's campaign had failed because it paid insufficient concern to voters' economic concerns. He argued that Democrats could use social inclusion as a "wedge" issue to win over suburban supporters.

"What is it about what we did when we won and what we didn't do when we lost?" he asked, before answering his own question by adding, "I'm all for a socially inclusive message but not at the exclusion of an economically robust message."

I'll pass, thanks. He's too good at pissing off fellow Democrats.

Abrasive doesn't equal effective.
