J.B. Pritzker runs away with Democratic nomination for governor

With decisive support throughout the state, J.B. Pritzker — the billionaire entrepreneur and philanthropist who put in more than $69 million of his own fortune into his gubernatorial campaign — has won the Democratic nomination.

Backing by Democratic strongholds and unions helped to spread his message. Pritzker thanked U.S. Senators Dick Durbin and Tammy Duckworth, as well as Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White and Illinois Comptroller Susana Mendoza in his speech to supporters.

The Pritzker campaign said there was strong enthusiasm amongst the Democratic base particularly with African-American voters, downstate Democrats and women. And they cited a record Democratic turnout — more than 200 percent higher than in 2014 and 30 percent higher than in the last competitive race in 2010.

“Bottom line: the Democratic base came out,” the campaign said.

I did not vote for him, but will do everything I can to make sure he wins in NOV '18.

6. Someone I trust implicitly,

and who is a very knowledgeable person himself, knows JB professionally and personally. Says he's a decent, hard-working person and has a very good chance at being a great governor. So even though I didn't vote for him, I take comfort in that.

Also, JB was out visiting Democratic events all over the state, in large and small communities. He was out there earlier than anyone else, too. I saw his hard work on the campaign.

I did not like the early endorsements by so many politicians and unions, but I understand. It is crucial that we win this. Rauner will just buy another election if we don't work hard.

I have friends who know JB and talk about his honesty and work ethic. I have friends who say the same about Kennedy.

I voted for Kennedy. But I will work very hard to get JB elected. He was my second choice.

Pritzger was not the candidate I voted for, but he's the one running against Ruiner now. Not gonna get all preachy or anything, but we are reaping the harvest now of an election where party "purity" was an issue for some, and I am not at all willing to even open the door for that when it comes to getting rid of our current Governor. Hoping that Illinois Dems can--just this ONE time--get their shit together and work for our full ticket.

IF we can manage to focus we can get rid of that worthless asswipe Ruiner and some gawd-awful GOP Congressmen along with him. THAT would be a thing of beauty. Right now, if we were running a slate of ham sandwiches, I'd be working hell out of ham sandwiches.

Which is a good deal. And yes, time to coalesce around the Dem candidates. We don't want a repeat of the 2016 presidential election. This means supporting Lipinksi - which should be a NO BRAINER given his opponent. Let's hope Arthur Jones is used in Dem ads across the nation as Jones is not alone in his thinking. He just says it out loud and in print.

In my (small) precinct, Rauner only beat Ives by 1 vote. And some voters must not have picked either of them as the totals for our congressional candidate were higher than the total for the governor.

Yes, in Illinois, Rauner was not conservative enough for almost 1/2 voting Repug in the primary !!

Rauner has to go. I really don't get the mindset of people who won't vote because their candidate didn't win the primary.
