Doctor Embroiled In Fraud, Sexual Abuse Scandal Falls Ill
ROCKFORD The Rockford-area doctor embroiled in a Medicare fraud and sexual abuse scandal has fallen ill and will not be sentenced until next month.
Charles DeHaan, 64, was scheduled to be sentenced Wednesday on three counts of aggravated battery, charges stemming from allegations that he fondled three women under his care. Because he has been having heart problems and losing consciousness, the hearing was rescheduled for Jan. 14 at the Winnebago County Courthouse.
It was initially reported that DeHaan suffered a stroke at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Chicago, where he is serving a nine-year federal prison sentence. However, it has not been confirmed whether DeHaans symptoms were the result of a stroke. He has recently been hospitalized.
DeHaan was the owner of Housecall Physicians Group of Rockford, formerly known as House Calls of Greater Chicago. In addition to sexual abuse allegations in Winnebago County, DeHaan was charged in Cook County with aggravated criminal sexual assault and aggravated criminal sexual abuse.
