Enrollment for winter heating assistance

November 2, 2012 (CHICAGO) -- Enrollment for winter heating assistance has begun at the 35 local agencies that administer the program throughout Illinois.

The agencies are beginning to process applications on a first come, first served basis. Priority enrollment for seniors, the disabled and families with children under age 5 began earlier this year.

The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program is a state-federal program for low-income families. A single-person household can be eligible for assistance with a monthly income of up to $1,396. A two-person household can qualify with a monthly income of up to $1,891.

Certain documentation is required to apply. More information is available on the program's website.
