Related: About this forumLisa's not in for governor. Pat Quinn is likely to have other challengers, though.
Saw it in the newspaper today. Lisa still might try to knock off Mark Kirk in the Senate three years from now, though.
Pat Quinn has the advantages of incumbency, but he's made a lot of enemies, so this will be a tough race for governor, whether it's with him or someone else.
Anyone have any thoughts on the primary at this point?

(18,402 posts)If you haven't been following the story of his (admitted) strong-arming the former Metra director to give raises and jobs to his political hacks (the director declined and was summarily fired for failing to do Madigan's bidding), ask me anything. It's been front page news for the last week in the Tribune.
As for the governorship, I think I'll stick with Quinn for the primaries, unless someone else comes along (not a Daley). He hasn't got a chance, but it's the very fact that he's refused to kowtow to these old-time power brokers that makes me respect him.

(31,428 posts)He is too powerful. And the Trib is biased. They are harder on our crooks than they are on the repubbie crooks.

(18,402 posts)Madigan admits that he put the squeeze on this guy to raise the salary of one of his ward bosses, and that he tried to get someone fired. It's also documented that the Metra guy was fired because he refused to accede to outside political pressure (in these cases and in an attempt to skirt the contracting process for a construction project, the Englewood flyover).
But I agree he's too powerful. That doesn't mean I don't think he's slime.

He was considered untouchable.

(4,815 posts)but on the upside he also doesn't appear destined for jail, which is rare for an Illinois governor. Rutherford (Republican) would trounce Quinn if the election were today but Illinois politics are nutso and things can change in a flash, here in the land of Lincoln.

(58,162 posts)lisa could run in three years and would probably beat kirk if he runs. i have no idea what democrat would run for the governorship.

(31,428 posts)beat a repubbie in the general. If Quinn has the nomination, we will lose the governor's office. However, I can't see the legislature in Springfield cooperating with a newly elected repubbie.

(84 posts)Who would want the gig of governor of Illinois these days? It's a pretty hopeless situation getting worse. Everyone expects the governor to mop it all up.

(28,017 posts)She has been relatively dismal as AG, and has put the office in trouble. (age discrim). But for her father, she would have never achieved that office. Without his helping hand, I suspect that she would quickly fall to her Peter Principle level.
