Allen Co. Dems call on Indiana GOP chair to resign from city clerk job; she hits back

Allen County Democrats want the Indiana Republican Party’s leader to resign from her publicly funded day job, arguing that holding both roles at once presents “conflicts of interest.”

Fort Wayne City Clerk Lana Keesling criticized the Allen County Democratic Party’s motivations in an open letter that revealed she plans to leave her city position soon — but not yet. Fort Wayne is the seat of Allen County.

She ascended to the state GOP’s top job in February, becoming the party’s fourth chair in two years.

Allen County Democratic Party Chair Chad Wierzbinski said that, at that point, it was expected that Keesling “would follow the precedent established by previous Indiana Republican Party chairs who also served as elected officials, by resigning her elected position and releasing taxpayers from the burden of subsidizing a high-level political official.”
