Possible tornado hits Kentucky on New Year's Day

HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (WZTV) – Severe storms caused damage across the southern United States Saturday and Sunday, including a suspected tornado in Kentucky.

Heavy winds and rain blew through Hopkinsville, Kentucky, on Saturday morning, leaving a trail of destruction.

A tornado is suspected, but not confirmed at this time. The Hopkinsville Police Department says no injuries have been reported.

Gov.Andy Beshear is monitoring the system after 77 people died in Kentucky from tornadoes last month, and even declared a State of Emergency on Sunday. He says the severe weather caused flash flooding, loss of power and damage of public infrastructure and private properties.
