New Orleans surgeon Ali Sadeghi faces four additional counts of voyeurism in new indictment
The case against a prominent New Orleans plastic surgeon accused of rape and voyeurism took on new contours Thursday, with the Orleans Parish District Attorney abruptly dropping all charges against Dr. Ali Sadeghi and then quickly securing a new indictment.
Sadeghi is now accused of secretly videotaping five different women -- four of them inside of his operating room, according to prosecutors -- and raping one of them.
The allegations were outlined in a six-count grand jury indictment handed up against Sadeghi on Thursday, hours after the District Attorney's Office dropped an indictment brought in May that accused Sadeghi of raping and surreptitiously recording only one woman.
Sadeghi's attorneys have said the woman at the center of the May indictment was someone with whom the doctor has been locked in a bitter civil dispute. As of Thursday, he is accused of secretly taping her for lewd purposes from Aug. 22, 2012, through Aug. 28, 2012, and of raping her from Jan. 1, 2014, to Oct. 17, 2014.
