Dixie Cab in Lafayette faces permit suspension for not paying traffic camera fines

Lafayette's main taxi company could be shut down for more than $50,000 in unpaid traffic camera fines.

City-parish government put Dixie Cab on notice last month that its required vehicle-for-hire permits will be suspended effective Oct. 30 if past-due traffic camera fines are not paid, according to documents made public Thursday after Dixie Cab owner Joe Yousef appealed the pending suspension to the City-Parish Council.

Dixie Cab, which also operates under the name City Cab, has been battling with city-parish government over unpaid violations since Lafayette began its traffic camera enforcement program in 2007.

The bill for the company's 966 tickets has now climbed to $56,000, including late fees and penalties, said City-Parish Chief Administrative Officer Lowell Duhon.
