Westbound I-10 in Metairie to see major disruption Tuesday night
Westbound I-10 travelers in part of Metairie might want to avoid the highway late Tuesday and early Wednesday, as crews plan to close all but one lane from Clearview Parkway to the Veterans Memorial Boulevard exit. The restrictions, part of a highway expansion project, will create a one-night bottleneck in one of the busiest sections of highway in Louisiana.
But officials said drivers are getting a reward for putting up with the mess. When all westbound lanes reopen Wednesday morning, they will be back to the 12-foot width of regular interstate highway lanes, more than a foot wider than the current construction configuration.
Workers plan to close the center and right westbound lanes on Interstate 10 starting at the Clearview interchange on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. The restriction will let crews shift the three westbound lanes to the left and install temporary barriers on the right side of the road.
That will allow major work on the $42.4 million expansion to move from the highway's median to its outside lane and shoulders, project spokesman Mike Sasser said.
