Maine Gov. Janet Mills announced Thursday that she is suspending her campaign for Senate after trailing military veteran and oyster farmer Graham Platner in the Democratic primary, citing a lack of financial resources.
While I have the drive and passion, commitment and experience, and above all else the fight to continue on, I very simply do not have the one thing that political campaigns unfortunately require today: the financial resources," Mills said in a statement.
"That is why today I have made the incredibly difficult decision to suspend my campaign for the United States Senate," Mills said.
Senate Democrats had touted Mills as a top recruit to take on GOP Sen. Susan Collins, the only Republican senator representing a state that President Donald Trump lost last year. Maine is practically a must-win if Democrats are to net the four seats they need to take control of the chamber in the 2026 midterm election. But Collins has proven a tough opponent in previous elections.

(23 posts)This opens the doors for SC's re-election. Platner will be destroyed by his past and lack of experience in the upcoming election. BTW, thanks for the surprise in the mail. Will be planting some today!

(103,791 posts)A promise is a promise! Glad they got there okay!
I hope they all grow well. I'm going to go with a few pots in the drip-line of the building here. The garden is too far for me to deal with this year, especially with gas way over $4/gal. Plus, I am getting my car painted soon and have other expenses coming up so running down to the garden spot just doesn't make sense for my tiny budget.
Let me know how the plants do. I am working on editing my photos, they'll be done sometime, not sure when, but I have a thumb drive with your name on it.
Will do. Container gardening is a great option! Good luck.

(37,070 posts)supporting Collins has funding from someone who is tearing down old mills to put in AI data centers. No wonder folks are freaking out. I'd probably be supporting him also (knowing that he has some issues). I have hated Susan for a long time, she reminds me a lot of the fake politicians we have down here in TX.
