Md: Judge Blocks Gov. Hogan's (R) Decision To End Enhanced Pandemic Unemployment Benefits

Washington Post, July 3, 2021. - Excerpts, Ed.

A Baltimore Circuit Court judge on Saturday temporarily blocked Gov. Larry Hogan’s order to end enhanced federal unemployment benefits, allowing hundreds of thousands of jobless workers in Maryland to continue to collect them. Judge Lawrence Fletcher-Hill issued a temporary restraining order, becoming the second judge in the United States in recent days to halt a governor’s order on unemployment benefits related to the pandemic from taking effect.

Maryland is one of at least three states where lawsuits have been filed by jobless workers.

The restraining order lasts 10 days, and the judge said he will schedule a full hearing on the plaintiffs’ request for a preliminary injunction against Hogan’s order in the coming days. Hogan said he plans to appeal the ruling. Hogan’s order would have ended benefits on Saturday, cutting off residents from a source of extra aid on top of state unemployment benefits.

Fletcher-Hill said it appeared likely Hogan does not have the authority to end the program early and it would cause serious harm to thousands of state residents still struggling with the economic fallout from the coronavirus. “The impact of the pandemic has been universal, but the brief stories of these plaintiffs reminds the court that the impact of the pandemic has been cruelly uneven,” Fletcher-Hill wrote in his opinion.

..Hogan has said the enhanced benefits were no longer necessary because of the widespread availability of vaccines and a tight labor market, which he said made it important for the jobless to get back to work.. At least 25 states led by Republican governors have decided to end the enhanced benefits, which were created by Congress to cushion the blow of the coronavirus pandemic, and are authorized and funded through September 6...

suck.

Fucker Hogan is cracking the whip on struggling people.

Cruelty is the point.

Hogan believes the same thing McConnell says. "It's improper to give money to the middle class/working poor."

Hogan only appears reasonable.
Pull off that fake appearance of reasonableness and he's no better than Hawley or any other republican trash.

It is republican beliefs that are wrong and to believe the garbage republicans think are "principles" is self serving very autocratic, cruel and anti social and classist.

I hope he loses if his sorry ass runs again.

Maryland do the right thing remove this trash and vote democratic.
End this fucker's career.

He is a scumbag precisely because of his beliefs and lack of compassion for the middle/ lower class.

He's a monster imo to hurt people by cutting off federal money. Pretty nasty mistake.

I told people what I thought about him. They Pooh pooed me.

I stick to my guns, yet there was this undeserved praise for this piece of shit I could not accept.

The reason I knew he was an asshole is because of what you have to believe or endorse to be considered a conservative.

It requires one to be a sociopath. It requies an authoritarian personality ,It requires a dead moral compass and no ethics, and no compassion or empathy.

Hogan just pretended to be a decent guy.

I remember during quarantine he let that orange fucker visit fort McHenry after everyone in Baltimore told him to not to bring him here. Especially after he called Baltimore a shitty city.

Hogan is a damn Trumper asshole.
Just like all the other republican trash.

Here in Ohio we have one of those so-called “reasonable Republican“ governors, too. He pushes vaccines ... but then he screws gay and trans people. They just can’t help being cruel to at least somebody.

They are sociopathic and authoritarian it's thier personality or who they are that is the problem driving thier so called beliefs.

Every republican I have seen is a dark triad personality. Look at what they vote for or not vote for. Look at whom they hate,
Look at thier " priorities". It will become crystal clear what monsters they are.

He only got 55 percent of the vote last time. Easy for hogan to lose in 2022 if he can run.

Last week judge ruled the governor can't prematurely end federal benefits. I made this point a while back, the Congress enacted a LAW for the extended benefits, state governor's should not be able to end them, plus they can't use the funds for any other purpose.
