Second only to Alaska.

I love when people call it that.....the Great Lakes are not really the Midwest, even though people persist in thinking so.

One list is oceanfront only and does not include Michigan, the other includes lakes and does include Michigan. Wikipedia (NOAA) shows Michigan as number 9 on the second list.
