5 heavyweight Metro Detroit races in the GOP-Democratic fight for Michigan House
House District 27
Democratic state Rep. Jaime Churches of Wyandotte is in a tough reelection race against Republican challenger Rylee Linting of Grosse Ile. Churches is a 36-year-old former elementary school teacher who is seeking a second term, while Linting is the 22-year-old Michigan Republican Party youth vice chair and a representative for Turning Point Action, a conservative political activism organization.
House District 31
Republican Dale Biniecki, a retired truck driver from Raisinville Township, is challenging state Rep. Reggie Miller, D-Van Buren Township, who defeated him in 2022 by more than 4 percentage points.
House District 58
Republican Utica City Council member Ron Robinson is trying to oust state Rep. Nate Shannon, D-Sterling Heights, who is running for a fourth term.
House District 61
Republican challenger Robert Wojtowicz, a Chippewa Valley school board member, is running to unseat first-term state Rep. Denise Mentzer, D-Mount Clemens.
Michigan House District 55
Democratic challenger Trevis Harrold of Rochester is taking on state Rep. Mark Tisdel, R-Rochester Hills, who is seeking a third two-year term.
