Oakland County voters to decide on executive, parks millage, more

Oakland County voters face a range of issues and decisions in the November general election, and party leaders from both sides of the aisle say high turnout for the top of the ballot could affect other races down the ticket.

County Executive David Coulter is seeking his second full term leading Michigan's second most populous county and faces Republican businessman Nik Gjonaj. Coulter says the county has made strides with expanding public transit and creating more affordable housing under his leadership, while Gjonaj said the county's budget has a lot of waste and he'd cut property taxes by 25%.

Sheriff Michael Bouchard, the only Republican currently holding countywide office, is seeking his seventh term in office and faces Democrat Amrit Kohli.

And Prosecutor Karen McDonald, meanwhile, is seeking a second term, just months after her office's historic prosecutions and convictions of James and Jennifer Crumbley, the parents of the Oxford High School shooter. She is running against former assistant Oakland County prosecutor Scott Farida of West Bloomfield.
