Newcomers seek seats on UM, MSU, WSU boards with fewer incumbents running
Voters will consider eight new faces, three incumbents and a former board member when deciding whom to elect to the governing boards at University of Michigan, Michigan State University and Wayne State University.
Voters often consider at least one incumbent for two open seats, with eight-year terms, on the eight-member boards that open up for reelection every two years.
But this year, voters in the race for Michigan State trustees will consider four newcomers for two open seats. In the UM Board of Regents race, they will consider one incumbent after the Michigan Republican Party did not select UM Regent Ron Weiser for reelection. At MSU, the GOP did not select Trustee Dan Kelly, and Democratic Trustee Dianne Byrum is not seeking reelection.
Wayne State has two incumbents seeking reelection.
