Much of the award $10 million is for punitive damages against Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, according to the verdict form.
Lisa Domski, who worked at Blue Cross for more than 30 years, said she was a victim of religious discrimination. The company in 2021 did not grant an exemption from its vaccine policy, despite her insistence that it clashed with her Catholic beliefs.
Domski's attorney, Jon Marko, said she worked 100% remotely as an IT specialist during the pandemic; 75% before COVID-19 hit in 2020.

(28,590 posts)There are some religions that are against the vaccine and, even in Washington State, where I live, and where we had a stiff vaccine policy, exemptions were carved out. But being Catholic was not one of the exemptions.

(11,122 posts)I don't think so. She most likely is a fearful, non-critical thinking, FoxNews watching, Trump believing, willing to spread disease to others, selfish American? That should not qualify for that high of a monetary award.
I understand that by living remotely, if she could do her job in isolation so as not to infect others, accommodations in policy would have been a better option for BCBS to take after her refusal...but they are a HEALTH COMPANY!!! Once they allowed it, she could have run to social media/FoxNews and said "See. Vaccines are not necessary because a major Health Company is allowing me to not get the vaccine!" with guest appearances on Hannity/Ingraham, etc. and more people needlessly getting ill and spreading the infection because they stupidly refused the vaccine.

(13,135 posts)It might be difficult to win given that she was working from home, and the article didn't mention that she ever tested positive for it.
