Michigan's Dr. Joneigh Khaldun gets spot on Biden's COVID-19 task force

(Detroit Free Press) President Joe Biden's administration has tapped Michigan's top doctor to join a federal COVID-19 Health Equity Task Force whose goal will be to address disparities that have emerged during the pandemic in testing, cases, hospitalizations and mortality, the White House announced Wednesday.

Dr. Joneigh Khaldun, the chief medical executive and deputy director of the state health department, will join the task force that was created Jan. 21 to rectify health inequities associated with race, ethnicity, geography, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity and other factors.

“I am honored to be part of the COVID-19 Health Equity Task Force and to play a part in helping address inequities as they relate to the COVID-19 pandemic," Khaldun said in a news release. “The virus has had a disproportionate impact on our most vulnerable communities, including communities of color. I look forward to making contributions as part of this task force that will ensure that future pandemic responses do not ignore or exacerbate health inequities.” .................(more)
