Excellent! And the only halfway credible GOP candidate just dropped out because he doesn't want to be a Republican any more.

She's a Senator so Walz can appoint a replacement if she resigns before the election,

For now, yes. But she could resign this summer in time for Walz to appoint a replacement

Or she waits to resign until after the election to resign & then Walz appoints her replacement.

question everything
(51,797 posts)1. Special elections or appointment to fill the rest of her term?

(129,625 posts)2. She's a Senator so Walz can appoint a replacement if she resigns before the election,
which she is not required to do. Special elections are necessary only to replace House members, but not Senators. If she does resign sooner I hope Walz appoints Peggy Flanagan, and then Angie Craig could be nominated unopposed to run for Tina Smith's seat.

and for someone else to run for Smith's seat while she campaigns for Governor.

(just in case, God forbid, something goes wrong. With Trump & Miller so determined to interfere in elections, I wouldn't take any chances)
