Amy Klobuchar just announced that she is officially running for Governor.

Excellent! And the only halfway credible GOP candidate just dropped out because he doesn't want to be a Republican any more.

1. Special elections or appointment to fill the rest of her term?

2. She's a Senator so Walz can appoint a replacement if she resigns before the election,

which she is not required to do. Special elections are necessary only to replace House members, but not Senators. If she does resign sooner I hope Walz appoints Peggy Flanagan, and then Angie Craig could be nominated unopposed to run for Tina Smith's seat.

3. But we need Amy in the Senate in the meantime.

4. For now, yes. But she could resign this summer in time for Walz to appoint a replacement

and for someone else to run for Smith's seat while she campaigns for Governor.
