Volunteers work to get the election word out to rural voters

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - The race to the White House is in a full sprint.

While candidates in local, state and national races are stumping across the country, thousands of volunteers across party lines are backing them up.

In Nebraska, both the NEGOP and Democratic Party have headquarters in Metro areas, but outreach to rural voters is becoming more and more prevalent.

Research from UNMC shows over a third of the state population lives in rural areas and a divide between demographics can extend beyond location to politics. According to Pew Research Center data, a majority of urban voters lean Democrat while a majority of rural voters lean Republican.

Nebraska Democratic Party Chair, Jane Kleeb, said the NDP is focusing a lot of their efforts on the 2nd Congressional District. At the same time, they aren’t ignoring the rest of the state.
