Nebraska state troopers union says parts of Ricketts' report are 'reckless' and false
LINCOLN Officials with the state troopers union charged Friday that some of the conclusions in a governors report about problems at the Nebraska State Patrol, particularly the unions role, were reckless and untrue.
The president of the State Troopers Association of Nebraska hailed Gov. Pete Ricketts decision to fire the superintendent of the statewide law enforcement agency. But he said other aspects of the report unfairly tried to shift the blame for the patrols problems onto the union.
At one point during a press conference, Sgt. Brian Peterson, the head of the union, said that the report, released Thursday, appeared to be the start of an push by the conservative Republican governor to weaken collective bargaining.
This is an effort to shift direction and focus, Peterson said. It makes no sense to us, because we had attempted to highlight these (mismanagement) issues.
