As Nevada sets heat records across the state, NV Energy asks customers to conserve energy

As both Northern and Southern Nevada continue to break heat records this weekend, NV Energy is asking its customers to conserve energy from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. through Sunday.

The power utility made the ask in a statement sent Saturday morning, warning wildfires and extreme heat were affecting power transmission lines. NV Energy said that poses a threat to the power grid.

On Friday, the National Weather Service said Reno broke its heat record for July 9 when the official high temperature hit 104 degrees, eclipsing the previous record of 102 degrees set in 2007. Las Vegas temperatures are also breaking records amid the Western heat wave this weekend.
