16-year-old accused of sexually assaulting, trying to kill his teacher in Nevada classroom
Police in Nevada arrested a 16-year-old and charged him with sexual assault and attempted murder in connection with an attack on his teacher in her classroom. Officers were called about 3:30 p.m. Thursday to the Eldorado High School, east of the city of Las Vegas, for a report of an injured teacher, according to a news release from the Las Vegas Metropolitan police.
Police found the teacher in her classroom being attended to by emergency responders for multiple injuries. She was taken to a hospital, where her condition was listed as stable.
An investigation revealed she was in her classroom when a 16-year-old student entered to talk about his grades, the news release said. At some point, the suspect got violent and began punching the victim and strangled her until she lost consciousness, the news release said. After the attack, the suspect fled the classroom. Another staff member eventually found the wounded teacher and called for help.
Police did not provide additional information about the sexual assault or elaborate further on the attack or her injuries. Investigators identified the suspect and arrested him in a residential neighborhood about half a mile away from the high school without incident. Officers booked the teen into the Clark County Detention Center for attempted murder, sexual assault, battery with intent to commit sexual assault, first-degree kidnapping and robbery.
The suspects name was not provided by police.
