Want to vote by absentee? Or by mail-in ballot? Here's what you need to know

GLENS FALLS – About 1,000 people in Warren County have applied for early, mail-in ballots ahead of the Nov. 5 elections, board of elections officials say.

“A lot of people go away for the winter. They have been starting to come in quite a bit before they leave to go to Florida or wherever they go,” said Washington County Board of Elections Democratic Deputy Commissioner, Mindy Suprenant. “Some people travel for work and just want to get this over and done with.”

In recent years New York has updated its voting processes, from expanding absentee voting practices during the pandemic to new legislation that now allows for voters to mail in their ballots.

There are generally two steps anyone who wants to vote by absentee ballot or mail-in ballot. First, you must apply for a ballot. Second, voters may then vote using the ballot.
